End of Day

One more day
of
rain...
Can't you hear
me
complain?
Bucket of dirt
with
spade,
In quiet protest
they
lay

as

one more day
of
rain
becomes
two more days
of rain,

then
 three.

The sun lays low at the end of day as the storm pushes on to the east, and the canopy of dark begins to spread its wings across the horizon silently reaching out towards the gardens.  A cicada song breaks the hushness, then a chorus of cicada songs briefly fills the moist warm air sending the sun on its way to the other end of the earth.  Blue jays in the distance fill the calm with chatter, the green pond frog croaks a few loud calls for a companion, neighboring tree frogs enticed by the moist landscape take over where the cicadas left off, and the random on and off glow of courting lightening bugs throughout the gardens and into the tree canopy begins to dispel what anxiety the past day held and soothe the soul with the solitude that darkness promises.  Another world is awakening to the rich cloak of night...a world that comes alive and thrives when golden light takes a back seat. Shadows of night beetles, spiders, pond and garden creepy crawlies you might rather just think about than actually meet.  With a light sigh and a content soul you escape nature for man-made at the end of another day, knowing that when gardens hold the lushness of nature at its finest, no one or thing is ever alone...ever.

  1. Strange weather, huh? No rain in Oregon for over a month. Oregon!

    1. I know...it's always supposed to rain in Oregon. The woods there are so lush. Haven't yet had to water the gardens except several times for the newbies. Just got my veggies planted :) At least I'll have a fall crop on most of them. No rain today or tomorrow maybe, so cleared the pathways even though everything is still wet. It's a jungle out there with all this rain.

    1. The sun...what is that? I do see it once in a while for part of the day. So nice when it isn't 100 degrees. Hope you thoroughly enjoy your perfect sunny days :)
